Rice Cooker Gyudon, Japanese Beef Rice Bowl

So quick, easy, and tasty. This dish is an absolute winner, where cleanup is just the rice maker!


Ingredients

  • 2 cups short grain Japanese rice, such as sushi rice
  • 3 cups water
  • 5 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sake of white wine
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp dashi or miso paste
  • ———–stir————————
  • 1 lb (0.45 kg) beef, thinly sliced (get butcher to slice like cold-cuts)
  • 1 onion diced
  • 2 stalks green onion chopped
  • ———–cook————————
  • Sriracha sauce

Method

  1. Add all ingredients to a rice maker, in the order shown, except the beef, onion, and green onions.
  2. Stir ingredients in the rice maker
  3. Layer on the beef, then onion, and then green onions
  4. Add additional water to cover, if required
  5. Cook in rice maker (approximately 20 minutes)
  6. Serve
  7. Garnish with Sriracha sauce to taste
